Enhancing Spaces Through Inclusive Design

Urban MBA – a charity dedicated to empowering young adults through business education and mentoring – had recently moved into a new space near Old Street, London.

With a strong focus on inclusivity, the organisation wanted the environment to reflect its values and ensure it was welcoming and accessible to everyone who used it.

After taking part in a workshop on designing spaces for neurodiversity, Urban MBA asked 360 Workplace to help review its new office. The aim was simple: make the space as inclusive, practical, and welcoming as possible within the available budget.

Refining the Workspace

Turning Challenges Into Opportunities

The office, as received, presented several challenges. It required adaptation to meet the diverse needs of users, including those who are neurodiverse.

Urban MBA wanted to optimise the layout and finishes to foster a sense of belonging and comfort. At the same time, improvements needed to be carefully balanced with financial constraints to ensure meaningful impact within a realistic budget.

Project Methodology

Turning Insight Into Action

The project began with a kick-off meeting to gain a clear understanding of Urban MBA’s vision and aspirations for the space. During this session, the team explored the practical challenges the organisation faced and reviewed the condition of the office at handover.

360 Workplace then carried out a comprehensive on-site assessment. Our team took detailed measurements, photographed the environment to capture existing conditions, and evaluated functional and sensory aspects of the layout, finishes, and furniture.

Following the assessment, a full report was produced outlining opportunities and practical recommendations. These were designed to complement Urban MBA’s planned upgrades and ensure that improvements were both achievable and effective.

By integrating expert insights with its existing plans, Urban MBA has transformed its new office into a space that embodies its mission.

The project shows how inclusive design principles – even when applied within a modest budget – can significantly enhance accessibility and belonging for everyone who uses the space.
